Annual Exams

If you are a dog or cat owner, you likely want your pet to remain in the best of health throughout your pet’s life. One important part of caring for a dog or cat is making sure it receives proper medical attention, and this includes annual exams. If it is time for one of your pets to get a checkup, or if they have never had one, contact Parkview Animal Hospital in Lincoln, NE, with questions, or simply stop by at your convenience as we are a walk-in clinic (no appointments needed!)

.

Your Pet's Health Is Discussed

We will ask you to some questions once you arrive regarding your pet’s current health condition when you arrive at our clinic. This will inform the veterinarian about any medical problems that need to be focused upon during your pet's examination. This is also useful as a record of your pet's health should a problem arise in the future.

Your Pet's Vitals Are Documented

During your visit, your pet will be weighed and his or her temperature will be taken. Both of these actions are important because they give our veterinarian a starting point in assessing your pet's health. For example, if your pet seems to weigh less than the normal range for his or her breed and age, this will indicate action needs to be taken to ensure your pet receives proper nutrients for optimal health. If your pet has a fever, it may be a sign that your pet is suffering from a condition that requires intervention. Also, these records are useful historically and will be looked at during subsequent visits to ensure your pet remains within the healthy ranges as deemed by the veterinarian.

A Complete Evaluation Is Conducted

The veterinarian will check over your pet in great detail. This includes looking at your pet’s eyes, ears, and mouth for any signs of a problem. We will palpate your pet's stomach to make sure there are no growths or organ difficulties that require treatment, and we will auscultate the chest to ensure his/her heart and lungs sound okay.

If your pet is suffering from a parasite problem, medication can be administered to thwart it quickly. Your dog or cat's skin is checked for rashes and their fur is assessed to determine if your pet is receiving a proper diet. If any medical issues are detected, our vet will make recommendations about treatment options. We will discuss the importance of spaying or neutering, vaccination administration, and microchipping as well if these services have not already been provided.
